About This Spot

Wong’s Garden sits comfortably tucked away on SE Woodstock Boulevard, welcoming visitors with the warm hum of a well-loved neighborhood spot where the pace is unhurried and the kitchen’s pulse steady. From the moment you step inside, there’s a quiet ease to the room — lively without feeling rushed, with a subtle clatter of dishes and friendly greetings that feel more like catching up with an old friend than dining out.

The atmosphere breathes familiarity, a calming sort of regularity that invites you to settle in with the kind of meal that promises both comfort and a little culinary discovery. Here, portions arrive generous and generous in spirit — meals that linger long after the last bite, often meant for sharing and savoring over conversation. There's a natural rhythm in the way orders are prepared: the crackle of fresh-fried shrimp, the gentle steam rising from bowls of broth, and the colorful stir-fried vegetables that balance each dish with thoughtful, simple care.

While the flavors lean into classic Chinese-American favorites, there’s an underlying earnestness in every bite that speaks to something home-cooked but refined, a balance between the familiar and the lovingly hand-crafted. Whether it’s the tangy brightness that lifts the orange chicken or the satisfying heartiness of beef and broccoli, the food here carries a warmth that makes it a quiet standout among Portland’s sprawling options. It’s the kind of place that draws families and friends back again and again — not just for the taste, but for the comfort of a meal that feels like part of the neighborhood’s own story.

Behind the scenes, the staff moves with a genuine ease and attentiveness, their warmth setting the tone for a place where everyone seems glad to be feeding the community. The steady flow of orders never feels overwhelming, which leaves room for smiles and small talk, weaving moments of human connection into each visit. In a city bustling with culinary choices, Wong’s Garden quietly holds its ground, offering a reliable refuge where tasty meals and heartfelt service meet without pretense.

i had a family dinner here on Christmas and despite the chaos of the holiday, the service and food were both stellar! huge portions at an excellent price. no one at the table had a bad thing to say about any of the dishes.

Wong's Garden is one of the best Chinese joints in VanPort. We'd rather drive past dozens of other Chinese restaurants to dine at Wong's because they serve tasty food in huge portions at fantastic prices. My wife likes to order way more than we'll eat and bring home the rest. There's usually enough for three or four more meals—all for about $100. Highlights: For spice lovers, the Szechuan chicken is a standout. Ordered “extra spicy,” it arrives perfectly balanced with heat and flavor. The orange chicken is another favorite—crispy, tangy, and satisfying. My wife swears by the broccoli beef, while the pork lo mein and egg foo young also deserve special mention for their quality and flavor. Room for Improvement: Not every dish hits the same high mark. The fried shrimp have more batter than I care for. The hot and sour soup is decent but not very spicy. I still want to try their wonton soup. The Chinese spicy beef is just okay. The Verdict: Wong’s Garden feels like a bit of a secret. It’s a modest, no-frills space, but the kitchen consistently delivers where it matters most—flavor, portion size, and value. While I usually lean toward Thai food eight times out of ten, when the craving for Chinese hits, Wong’s is my go-to. -VanPort Insider

My place to go to for classic Chinese American comfort food. Big portions. Super friendly staff. Affordable. Highly recommended!

This is our go to chinese restaurant. I sometimes Google search other chinese restaurants because I like to try different places but we always end up here. The food is always fresh and fast. You also get large portions so you're getting a very good deal because there's at least 2 meals with your combo.

My kiddo is in the hospital, and wanted something quick that wasn’t hospital food, and this was perfect! Not too much rice, lots of the main meat dish, with and egg roll, and wantons! It’s really big enough for two small eaters. He said it would be ready in ten, I was there in 6, and was already ready and hot!

great experience! I got the egg rolls apitizer and the mah fat chicken which came with a side of rice. the egg rolls arent what I typically think of as egg rolls but they were very good non the less. the chicken was so delicious and definitely filled the fried chicken cravings I've been having. everything was so insanely filling and I had to take most of it home. they made my food very fast (like within 5 minutes fast) but I was also only one of two tables there at the time. I also loved the complementary hot tea. again, great experience! im just bumped that there arent more pictures and descriptions of their food. however they do have QR codes that link to a special online menu that has way more descriptions of things
